Well since finals were over and he's been back home the past few days, naturally it shouldn't be difficult to blog. But it's almost getting painfully difficult to blog when you are too comfortable doing a million other things.
Nevertheless, a quick review of the first semester is probably more than overdue. It started out in July, one moment he was lazing around at home, next he was on a plane to a place he's never been before to study in a university he knows nothing about. Other than the fact that it is ridiculously cheap to do a 4 year course in Civil Engineering there.
However, it didn't turn out quite as bad as he thought it might be. UNIMAS isn't a half bad environment to study in, coursework isn't too challenging, exams are no where near STPM tough and lecturers are decent too. Socialising though, is a little difficult when people generally form their own groups of DOTA players or Bahasa Sarawak speakers or Tamil speaking Indians. Having to choose a stereotype, he decided to go for the Christian group. Its an advantage when half the people in Sarawak are Christians.
Of course, debating was always going to be inevitable. With a little initiative and dumb luck, he found himself attending regular debate meetings run by an almost secret and exclusive Unimas Debating Club. This is what made uni life awesome. Making a decent debut in the YS debate, bagging prizes he never expected, making it all the way to the semis, and ranking 2nd among all the teams.
He met Fitria and Fitri(who he recognised as his classmate) through debate, especially after the Yayasan Sarawak debate, and thus, the "crew" was born. Driving down to Kuching almost everyday to indulge in gastronomical adventures involving "Epic noodles", "green noodles", Arabic food, proper indian food(rare in Sarawak). buffet steamboat+grill, and of course, pork satay. Almost 2 months of this and he came back 2 kgs lighter. Strange, but he's not complaining. Then theres the awesome live band thats great for chilling out and unwinding after a long week. All of this with great company. They are awesome. They've even got plans to go on a road trip to Kalimantan on the next holiday, plus theres the opportunity to experience genuine Sarawak Native lifestyle in Kenawit(is that how you spell it?) all planned for next year.
Of course, there not being many Indians in Sarawak is a drawback. And by Indians he means hot Indian chicks. But this could be a good thing. Still, theres no harm in them poping up out of nowhere. Might just be too much to ask for. Nevertheless life is great as it is. It just cannot get better. Well actually it can, it is his life we are talking about. Anything could happen. The possibilities are endless. Just wait till the 2nd sem starts.
